Daily Life in the Pet Shop Ch. 214
"I've got a question," Pei Haoyan raised his hand. "Hua Ziyi's wound clearly looked like a cat scratch, so why did it look like it was done with a pen?"
"The first few scratches were from the cat. The last one was from a pen. Anyway, the earlier wounds had already healed, so it makes sense the pen mark didn't line up perfectly," Zhou Chongwen answered from the side.
"That's hilarious. Next time you want to punish someone, come to me, okay? I'll help you find a place and set up the gear," said Pei Haoyan. He wasn't a violent person by nature, but watching Hua Ziyi get scared little by little had been genuinely satisfying.
"Sure," Fang Yi nodded. Pei Haoyan really helped him out this time, and now that he knew about everything, doing it again wouldn't make much difference. Besides, it's not like the world was full of psychos like Hua Ziyi.
"Awesome. I've already arranged the trucks. They'll be here tonight. The Pei family place is empty now, so you guys can move out without worrying," Pei Haoyan said. Even though the Hua family had already left, he was still worried that too much noise might draw attention, so he only sent two big trucks without any extra people.
"Thanks," Fang Yi said, then pulled Naima over to his side. Since this area was so remote, there weren't many animals around. During this time, Naima had only picked up a few stray kittens and one puppy outside. The rest of the time, she'd been just lying around doing nothing. She probably really missed the cats and dogs at the shop—she looked like she'd lost a lot of weight.
"When I get back home, can you bring Pei Datou and Pei Daniu to the shop? I think Naima misses them," Fang Yi said, wanting to cheer Naima up a little.
"Sure. My sister told me yesterday that Pei Datou and Pei Daniu seemed like they were missing Naima too. They've been acting all restless at home," Pei Haoyan nodded. Even though Pei Datou hadn't spent that much time with Naima, they were really close. If they didn't see each other for just a few days, Pei Datou would start acting up—now it had been more than a month.
Just as Fang Yi's car pulled up to the house, two people came out—Fang Yue and Du Qianze. Fang Yi wasn't surprised to see Fang Yue, but wasn't Du Qianze supposed to still be filming? Why was he back?
"Welcome home!" Fang Yue greeted Fang Yi with a big hug. She even looked a lot friendlier toward Pei Haoyan. Even though Fang Yi hadn't taken her to the villa, she knew everything that had gone down there. Watching Hua Ziyi get tortured so badly really made her feel good. Scumbags like that deserved it.
"Why are you back?" Fang Yi turned to ask Du Qianze.
"I'll tell you later. Let's get the animals out of the car first—they've gotta be uncomfortable in there," Du Qianze said with a smile. He'd been wondering if, after all this time apart, Fang Yi might act awkward around him. But now it seemed like Fang Yi hadn't changed a bit.
"Yeah, yeah, let's hurry and let the animals out," Pei Haoyan chimed in, not caring about getting dirty as he jumped in to help Fang Yi unload everything from the car.
"This cat is a real treasure—you gotta be careful," Pei Haoyan said seriously, handing the black cat to Fang Yue. He told her to reward the cat properly. Most of the time, the black cat Hua Ziyi saw was this one. It caught the most mice and even took down a snake.
"Where'd you put our Naima? Where's Da Huang?" Fang Yue gave Pei Haoyan a glare and said, "This cat isn't from our shop. It's a stray from outside—it just comes around to play sometimes."
"No way," Pei Haoyan looked at her like she was messing with him. "This cat can understand Fang Yi's commands and follow them perfectly. And it can flip the bird! Flip the freaking bird! I've seen a lot of cats in my life, and not one of them even comes close."
"Stray cats are usually smarter—otherwise, how would they survive out there? As for the middle finger thing, it probably just learned it messing around when it was bored. Not a big deal. You don't need to freak out so much," Fang Yue said casually. After spending so much time with Naima, she felt like no matter how smart other animals were, they still couldn't top Naima.
"My entire worldview has been shaken. I need a moment," Pei Haoyan muttered, taking the cage back from Fang Yue and heading off to the shop alone.
"Have you eaten? I made some food for you," Du Qianze asked as he helped Fang Yi finish unpacking.
"Nope, and I'm actually really hungry," Fang Yi replied with a big smile. That feeling of coming home to a hot meal was just the best.
"I haven't eaten either. Is there any for me?" Zhou Chongwen leaned over and asked.
"There is," Du Qianze nodded. Since he knew he was coming back today, he also figured Zhou Chongwen would show up too. But then he hesitated and added, "Hai Yang said he's coming by later to take you out to dinner. You sure you wanna eat with us?"
"I'm not dumb. No way I'm sticking around to be the third wheel. I'm out," Zhou Chongwen said, taking off right away without even bringing Red Bean or Mung Bean.
"Let's go eat," Fang Yi said after packing up. Du Qianze took his hand and led him to the house. He couldn't help but feel like Fang Yi had lost weight—and so had Naima.
"Go ahead, I'll take care of things here," Fang Yue said tactfully. She knew if she tried to tag along now, Du Qianze would definitely be annoyed.
"So, you were part of the whole thing from start to finish—what did you think?" Fang Yue walked into the shop and saw Pei Haoyan staring at the black cat on the table like it was some kind of idol. It was surrounded by toys and canned cat food and was currently digging into one of the cans.
"That was great. Next time something like this comes up, call me," Pei Haoyan said without even looking up.
"Hey," Fang Yue patted him on the shoulder. "Does your family have a thing for investigating people?"
"We really don't," Pei Haoyan said quietly, realizing she still hadn't completely let it go. "It's just that my sister and I really like this place, so our family looked into it. We don't dig into people we're not close with."
"Help me look into someone and handle one more thing, and I won't bring it up again. Deal?" In truth, after seeing how Pei Haoyan acted this time, Fang Yue had already forgiven him.
"Really? Who?" Pei Haoyan perked up, clearly happy she wasn't mad anymore.
