Adorable Pet Daily Life Ch. 37

Shen Luo felt like his heart was bleeding. Xiao Chuan laughed it off, but Shen Luo didn't want him to catch a cold and leave the clinic short-handed. Well, to be honest, it was because if Xiao Chuan got sick, Shen Luo would be heartbroken.

Of course, Shen Luo wouldn't tell anyone this secret. He knew he was gay, but hadn't figured out how to deal with it. He'd already accepted that he would spend his life with these cats and dogs.

Xiao Chuan worked at the hospital because he had no memories and hadn't found his family. Once he left, everything would be a thing of the past. Shen Luo hoped that the memories the hospital and he gave Xiao Chuan would be pleasant ones, not ones that he'd want to forget.

After a moment of self-pity, Shen Luo slapped himself to snap out of it. He pushed those complicated emotions aside and took Xiao Chuan to buy clothes.

Clothes these days were ridiculously expensive. A single winter coat easily cost over a thousand bucks. Shen Luo thought it was a total rip-off.

So, he took Xiao Chuan to the pedestrian street, walking straight through it without even glancing around, heading straight for a wholesale market.

"Xiao Chuan, when men buy clothes, warmth is the most important thing. As for whether they look good or not, that's not as important. We're not women, right?" Shen Luo started giving Xiao Chuan a little lecture.

Xiao Chuan, as usual, just gave Shen Luo a thumbs up. "Boss, your awareness is really high."

Shen Luo chuckled. "And besides, you're so handsome, you could wear anything and look good. Others are chosen by their clothes, but you choose your clothes. Don't you agree?"

"Thank you for the compliment, boss."

As for the monthly salary of 500 yuan, Xiao Chuan usually spent it all on things for the pets, like snacks and buns, leaving little for himself. So this time, Shen Luo was the one paying for Xiao Chuan's clothes. As for repayment or anything like that, Shen Luo, normally such a miser, didn't mention it. He acted like he'd completely forgotten about it.

If Zheng Jiamei were there, she would definitely have noticed something odd about Shen Luo.

The clothes at the wholesale market were both ugly and low quality—the only good thing about them was how cheap they were. Shen Luo, using his sharp eye for picking out decent stuff, managed to find two barely acceptable cotton jackets for Xiao Chuan. He spent a few hundred yuan, but when he saw how nice they looked on Xiao Chuan, the pain of spending that money eased up a little.

Not long after the first snowfall, someone brought in a shivering, half-frozen cat. Surprisingly, it was a male calico! Male calico cats were super rare, and in Japan, they were even considered a symbol of good luck.

This little guy, though, wasn't the bravest. But he was crazy affectionate—he'd meow and rub up against anyone he saw. Who would've thought a male cat could be such a little attention seeker?

Shen Luo had Wang Bo check him out. Turned out, aside from being a bit on the skinny side, he was completely fine. After some internal and external deworming, he was good as new.

For a stray, this cat seemed way too clueless. He wasn't cautious at all—while other cats would jump at the slightest noise, he just sat there, totally unfazed. Shen Luo had no idea how he managed to survive outside for so long.

It only took a day for the calico to get familiar with all the other cats and dogs at the hospital. But for some reason, he seemed to really like sticking around Qiu Qiu. Maybe because Qiu Qiu was just that good-looking?

Qiu Qiu, now fully recovered after staying at the hospital for so long, had grown a thick, glossy coat. Even though she was just a mixed breed, she looked as stunning as any fancy purebred cat. But because she was such a scaredy-cat, no adoption ever worked out. In the end, Shen Luo decided to keep her at the hospital permanently. Her adoption profile was taken down, but the regulars all knew the hospital had this one gorgeous resident cat.

The calico followed Qiu Qiu around for two whole days, and eventually, Qiu Qiu warmed up to him. Shen Luo couldn't help but wonder—were these two about to become a couple?

But apparently, Ah Fei wasn't having it. The second she saw them together, she'd charge over, growling and pouncing, scaring Qiu Qiu out of her wits and making her scramble for cover. At least Qiu Qiu knew her way around the hospital now, so she could always find a hiding spot fast. The calico, on the other hand, was a little slow on the uptake. At first, he got startled too, but after realizing Ah Fei wasn't actually trying to hurt him, he started... playing with her?!

Whenever Ah Fei pounced, the calico would flop onto the ground, waving his paws around like it was some kind of game. Ah Fei, completely unimpressed, lost interest and walked away, looking disgusted. The calico just sat there, confused—why did Ah Fei charge at him all excited, only to leave so soon? So, naturally, he followed after her.

"Hey! Ah Wei, stop him!" Zheng Jiamei yelled. Ah Fei was the hospital's number one troublemaker—even more unpredictable than Big Horn.

Wang Wei turned just in time to see the calico chasing Ah Fei up the cat tree, reaching out like he wanted to grab him. Not in an aggressive way, though—more like how cats play, tapping each other before darting away to see how the other reacts.

Ah Fei never liked playing with other cats. She acted like they were all beneath her, like she was some kind of feline royalty. And of course, a noble queen had no time for silly games.

Then, out of nowhere, the calico bopped Ah Fei's chubby butt and instantly bolted, expecting to be chased. But Ah Fei didn't even flinch—she just stayed put, completely ignoring him.

A moment later, under everyone's watchful eyes, the calico sneakily crept closer to Ah Fei, pausing for a split second before quickly reaching out and smacking her again. Then he dashed off.

Ah Fei still didn't react. Clearly, she had zero interest in this childish nonsense.

Wang Wei shrugged at Zheng Jiamei and said, "Nothing we can do—calico just loves to play."

Zheng Jiamei sighed in defeat. A cat with such a death wish... Even if you stop him once, you wouldn't be able to stop him forever. All the other cats in the hospital knew better than to mess with Ah Fei—except for this one, who had nerves of steel. Or, as Shen Luo saw it, no nerves at all. The little guy didn't even know what fear was; the moment he arrived, he was rubbing up against everyone like he owned the place.
