Adorable Pet Daily Life Ch. 48
Xiao Chuan said, "Nothing much. Brother Zhang said I looked kinda familiar, but I think he's just mixing me up with someone else."
Shen Luo's heart skipped a beat. He glanced at Zhang Yi, who still had that friendly smile on his face, and said, "Ah, I see. Well, people looking alike isn't exactly rare, right?"
Zhang Yi nodded with a grin. "Totally. Xiao Chuan's a good-looking guy. There are a lot of handsome guys in our line of work—probably just my mistake. By the way, your animals are seriously impressive."
Shen Luo couldn't even squeeze out a proper smile. "They're alright. Thanks for taking care of everything. It's been a pleasure working together."
"Pleasure's all mine," Zhang Yi said, still smiling.
Shen Luo turned to leave with Xiao Chuan, and Zhang Yi kept watching them from behind, his smile still there but feeling a bit confused inside. At first, he really did think Xiao Chuan looked familiar—but now it was Shen Luo's attitude that threw him off.
Xiao Chuan turned to Shen Luo and asked, "You don't like him?"
Shen Luo mumbled, "Why would I like him?"
"He's a celebrity. Everyone says he's super charming and gentlemanly. Don't you think so?"
Xiao Chuan complimenting someone else made Shen Luo even more sour. "So what, you don't think I'm charming and gentlemanly?"
Xiao Chuan replied, "That's different. Zhang Yi's older. You're still young! That's more of an age thing."
Shen Luo interpreted that as Xiao Chuan calling Zhang Yi old, and immediately felt a little better.
"Forget about him. Let's have hotpot when we get back!"
"Homemade?"
"Yeah. My dipping sauce is pretty bomb, right?"
"It's decent... Just makes the whole place smell like hotpot."
"No big deal, we'll just open a window and air it out."
Back at the pet hospital, Shen Luo finally felt like he was really in a good mood. Yep—Xiao Chuan was definitely his personal little antidote to all life's stress.
After coming back from filming the show, Shen Luo suddenly felt a bit more at peace. Xiao Chuan had remembered his own name—that wasn't a bad thing. Sooner or later, he'd recall who he really was and return to his old life. And this New Year's might be the only Spring Festival he'd ever spend in the hospital, so Shen Luo decided to make it a good one. As for all that tense and awkward atmosphere... best to keep it to a minimum.
That day was already the 28th. One more workday and everyone could go home to celebrate the Spring Festival.
Even though Wang Bo would be going home for the holidays, he'd still stop by during the New Year. Around that time, a lot of families would eat way too much, and their pets would end up getting dragged into it—tummy troubles, indigestion, loss of appetite, bones stuck in the throat... all that stuff happened all the time. So Wang Bo would probably need to pop into the hospital more often.
Right before the holiday, the hospital needed a solid cleaning. All five of them were buzzing around nonstop. The cats and dogs had been let outside, so the whole place felt a bit empty.
While Shen Luo was cleaning up the trash, he spotted the police officer he'd dealt with last time walking in.
"Officer Chen! Happy New Year, welcome, welcome."
Shen Luo put down what he was doing and greeted Officer Chen.
Officer Chen took off his hat and sat down on the couch. He gestured for the girl behind him to sit too. "Looks like things are busy over here. Sorry for dropping in like this."
Shen Luo smiled. "Anyone who comes to the door's a guest. Always happy to be interrupted."
Officer Chen said, "I came over today 'cause we need your help with something."
Shen Luo replied, "What kind of thing?"
Officer Chen pointed at the girl beside him. "She's a relative of mine. This kid has a dog that ran away yesterday. They still haven't found it, so I brought her here hoping you guys could help."
Shen Luo was a little surprised, but then thought about what happened last time—those criminals had a whole plan to kidnap a kid, and his animals still managed to track them down. So finding a lost dog shouldn't be that hard.
He turned to the girl. "What does your dog look like? And how'd it go missing?"
The girl looked pale, her eyes red—honestly, she looked pretty pitiful. "My dog's a chihuahua. It was noisy at home yesterday, so I took him out for a walk. While we were in the garden, I let go of the leash. He ran into a bush, and I thought he found something fun and would come back out in a sec. But I waited a few minutes and nothing happened. I called his name—no response. I went in to look myself, and he was already gone. I called out for him around the neighborhood for ages yesterday, but nothing. I've been looking all morning today too. Still no sign of him. I'm seriously freaking out."
As she kept talking, her voice got shaky, and tears started falling again.
Shen Luo had a soft spot for people who really cared about their pets. Officer Chen added, "This kid has asthma—she can't be alone for long. But her family's busy, so they can't always be with her. That dog's been by her side for years now. It even called for help a few times and probably saved her life more than once. So yeah, she's really attached to it."
The girl quickly nodded. "If you can help me find Benben, I'll seriously owe you."
Officer Chen had probably mentioned to her that Shen Luo liked money.
Shen Luo said, "Well, if that's the case, I can't really say no. Do you have anything of your dog's on you? Something with his scent?"
The girl thought for a second. "Yeah, I brought one of his sweaters. The one he's been wearing a lot lately. It's in the car—I'll go get it."
Maybe she saw a glimmer of hope in Shen Luo, 'cause she moved fast and came back with a tiny sweater meant for a dog.
Shen Luo told them to wait a sec, then went to the entrance, whistled a couple times, and called out. Not long after, the cats and dogs that had been playing outside all came rushing in.
Shen Luo let the dog sniff the sweater, then showed Big Horn the pictures of the chihuahua from the girl's phone. Big Horn had the other birds take a look too, and then, with a flurry of wings, they all flew off. A pack of dogs, led by Ethan, also bolted out the door right after.
The Samoyed wanted to join them, but Shen Luo held him back—this guy was playful and super forgetful. If he ran too far, he'd probably forget the way home.
"You guys might have to wait a bit," Shen Luo said. "The weather's been damp lately, scent doesn't stick well. They'll need some time."
