Adorable Pet Daily Life Ch. 78
Wang Bo actually knew more about that kind of thing than Shen Luo, so Shen Luo handed the two of them over to him while he went to play with the pit bulls nearby.
Watching the dogs pair up so nicely made Shen Luo think of Xiao Chuan again without meaning to, and he let out a heavy sigh. Life really had a twisted sense of humor.
Li Jinzhu and Xiang Weiran chatted with Wang Bo for quite a while. They were planning to have Baobao stay at Li Jinzhu's place for a bit. Xiang Weiran lived alone and usually left Baobao home by herself, but the Li family had people around all day who could watch over both dogs. Even though Xiang Weiran hated being apart from Baobao, she had no choice but to suck it up. But they agreed that during Baobao's pregnancy, she'd be staying at home, and King Kong could come over to keep her company.
Since Shen Luo's matchmaking basically worked out, the two of them each gave him a matchmaking fee—which added up to a few thousand—and said that once Baobao got pregnant, they'd come back to have the hospital staff help take care of her.
Xiang Weiran had a bold, carefree personality, and she laughed without a care as she said, "Who knew Boss Shen was a matchmaker too! I'm totally gonna help spread the word!"
Shen Luo frowned. "Cut it out. End of the world, zombies everywhere! I'm not in the mood." He was already feeling down about Xiao Chuan, and now they wanted him to play matchmaker, pairing up dogs and cats left and right? Might as well poke directly at his bruised heart.
But Xiang Weiran didn't think anything of it. As far as she was concerned, as long as there was money involved, was there really anything Shen Luo wouldn't do? So she just took his words as a joke—and really did go all out promoting his services.
Everyone knew how rare it was to see purebred pit bulls, and her friends were well aware of how hard she'd been trying to find a proper match for Baobao. No one expected she'd actually pull it off—and not just some quickie mating, but a full-on love story with a proper dating phase. It was such a novelty that tons of people started asking her about it. Xiang Weiran didn't mind at all—she told the story over and over again until the whole thing really got around.
Same over at Li Jinzhu's side. Aunt Chen, who used to be worried sick about her all the time, was now beaming ear to ear every day just because King Kong had found such a gentle and beautiful partner. People who didn't know any better would've thought Li Jinzhu had finally landed a boyfriend or something.
So just like that, Shen Luo's little "pet matchmaking" business suddenly took off. Within a few days, three or four other pet owners came by asking about the service.
This world really was biased against single dogs, Shen Luo thought silently.
Wang Wei, surprisingly, was the one who tried to talk him into it, "The matchmaking fees are pretty solid, and it's good for business. Boss, just take it. No point fighting with money."
That actually made Shen Luo look at Wang Wei in a new light. The guy usually didn't talk much, but when he did, it really hit the point. Pretty rare. If Zheng Jiamei had said it, Shen Luo wouldn't have thought anything of it.
After thinking it over, Shen Luo figured it was better to keep himself busy, so he accepted all the matchmaking requests for those cats and dogs. After checking the pets' health and listening to the owners' preferences, he created a profile for each one and started looking for suitable matches.
There were four pets in total—three dogs and one cat. They were all different breeds, and the owners all had different requirements. One of the weirdest was a corgi owner who actually wanted to crossbreed with a dachshund—didn't even want a purebred.
Shen Luo was speechless. There really were all kinds of people out there.
The corgi's owner explained that they wanted a dog with more personality. Because of all the hype, China was now full of those short-legged corgis, so they wanted something different.
Honestly, finding a match for a mixed-breed pairing was harder than for a purebred one. You might want a mix, but that didn't mean the other side would. To most people, the purer the breed, the more valuable the dog. Of course, the purer the breed, the more genetic flaws they usually had. A lot of pedigree pets came with built-in genetic issues.
Finding a dachshund wasn't hard. Finding a dachshund willing to mix with a corgi? That was the tricky part.
Still, with work to do, Shen Luo wasn't moping around like before. After all, the entire hospital was counting on him to keep it running.
The female cat had pretty much recovered by now. To avoid any future surprises, Shen Luo decided to get her spayed. Unexpectedly, she was super cooperative during the surgery—maybe even she didn't want to go through the pain of giving birth again.
Qiuqiu's kittens had grown a bit too. Shen Luo found it pretty fascinating—genes really were powerful. Thankfully, they didn't all take after Ah Chou. Three of the four were mostly white, and one had black-and-yellow coloring, nothing like Qiuqiu at all. The three white kittens were still tiny fluff balls, but Shen Luo didn't think they were ugly at all—in fact, they each had their own vibe.
One of them had a black patch over its left eye, though it wasn't that obvious yet since it was still small and mixed with some white fur. Once it grew up, its eye might end up looking like it had been punched.
Another one had two little black dots over its eyebrows. Shen Luo had no clue what it'd look like as an adult, but if it turned out looking like a Tang Dynasty beauty with those fancy eyebrow styles, that'd be hilarious. Then again, even if it did have those eyebrows, that would make it unique—and that's a good thing. No matter how ugly a pet might be, if it's got a distinctive look, finding a new owner isn't that hard.
At the end of the day, these pets were making a living off their looks too!
Of course, when they're still in the kitten phase, all cats are ridiculously cute.
Shen Luo spent about half an hour playing with the kittens. Seeing how Qiuqiu's babies were growing into unique-looking little things, he was finally able to relax a bit. As long as they weren't so ugly that no one would want them, it was fine.
Shen Luo called Zheng Jiamei over and asked her to take some photos of Qiuqiu and the kittens, then post them online to find potential adopters.
"Should we include Ah Chou in the pics?" she asked.
Shen Luo glanced at Ah Chou, who was busy sniffing the kittens, and said, "Better not. With a dad that ugly, we might scare people off."
