Adorable Pet Daily Life Ch. 107
Once she was settled in, Shen Luo went to check on the rescued cat. Sure enough, the skin condition was really bad—there wasn't a single patch of good fur on its body. It was all red and black—red from wounds, black from scabbing. Shen Luo stared at it for a long time and still couldn't figure out what color the cat was supposed to be. That's how rough of a shape it was in.
Its tail, tucked away, looked just like a rat's—completely bald. But its eyes were a deep, bright blue, hinting that if it ever grew its fur back, it might actually be a really pretty cat.
The poor thing let out soft little meows in its cage, crying out now and then, like it was super anxious.
There was no way Shen Luo could ask what the cat had been through. All he could do now was let it rest and recover.
Before she left, Zheng Jiamei told Shen Luo she had posted the golden retriever's photo and info on Weibo. She told him to keep an eye on his DMs—someone might recognize the dog, or the owner might contact them directly.
Once the post was up, Shen Luo felt more at ease. The hospital sometimes found lost pets, and their Weibo account usually managed to locate the owners in about three days. Just showed how popular the hospital's Weibo was.
Xiao Chuan had been following him the whole time, with no sign of wanting to leave. He had dinner made by Wang Wei, just like always, and then went home with Shen Luo.
Shen Luo had signed Brother Pi up for the frisbee competition happening the next day.
Frisbee was one of those games tons of dogs loved—just like fetch. But it was also a game that really tested a dog's skills. They needed to react fast, run fast, and jump high. Some dogs were absolutely obsessed with fetch and frisbee. Even if it landed in water, they'd swim after it no matter what.
That was exactly the kind of competition Brother Pi was in.
Sure, Brother Pi was a bit of a mess. Ever since he started hanging around with Duoduo and Mengmeng, he'd gone even further down the goofball path. But that didn't mean he was completely useless. When it came to running and jumping, he was actually super impressive. One time, he chased a night cat all the way up a tree. Using a spring-off-the-trunk move, Brother Pi jumped over two meters high and nearly bit the cat that had already climbed halfway up.
After the usual nighttime routine, everyone started getting ready for bed. Shen Luo spent half an hour bonding with Brother Pi before heading to sleep himself. He no longer let Brother Pi sleep in his room though—the snoring was terrifying, and he hadn't forgotten that one time Brother Pi's fart knocked out every animal in the hospital.
Just as Shen Luo was about to drift off, someone knocked on the door.
He sat up and saw Xiao Chuan pushing the door open.
"What's up?"
Xiao Chuan looked a little awkward. "My bed broke. Can't sleep on it. Can I crash here?"
There weren't any other beds in the house. The sofas were all pretty wrecked and already claimed by dogs and cats. Xiao Chuan didn't really have anywhere else to go.
Shen Luo immediately snapped out of his sleepiness. "Your bed broke? How?"
"Snapped right down the middle."
Shen Luo was speechless. The beds in this place weren't even his—left behind by the previous owner. All he'd done was clean them up. Didn't expect the quality to be this trash.
Yawning, Shen Luo felt his brain wasn't really functioning anymore. "Fine, go grab your blanket and sleep here."
It was a double bed anyway, and it wasn't like the two of them hadn't shared a bed before—at least that's what Shen Luo told himself.
A few minutes later, Xiao Chuan came in carrying a thin quilt. Shen Luo scooted over and made space for him.
After Xiao Chuan turned off the light, he laid down right next to him.
Shen Luo shut his eyes, thinking he was exhausted, but sleep wouldn't come. At first, it was the rustling sound of Xiao Chuan climbing into bed. Then, once he was settled and the rustling stopped, all Shen Luo could hear was Xiao Chuan's breathing right in his ear!
Facing away from him, Shen Luo internally cursed nonstop. Damn it, he hadn't washed his hair during his shower earlier! And the bedsheets hadn't been changed in three days! What if Xiao Chuan noticed a smell or something?
Eyes shut tight, Shen Luo just lay there, completely wide awake, his mind running on a never-ending loop of panic about what could go wrong, what Xiao Chuan might notice, how embarrassing it all was—it was driving him nuts.
He stayed frozen like that for over two hours before finally dozing off.
When he woke up the next morning, Xiao Chuan was still in bed.
He blinked a few times—so last night hadn't been a dream after all.
Xiao Chuan was still sound asleep, bathed in the soft morning light coming through the window. His face was just inches away, blurred slightly in the dim light. Shen Luo blinked again. He didn't want to move. If he did, he'd probably wake up all the animals in the house. Better to stay still.
At some point, Xiao Chuan's quilt had been kicked off the bed, and now the two of them were sharing the same one.
Damn it. Even splitting the blankets wasn't safe!
Shen Luo frowned and fell into deep thought. Could it be that he'd lost control last night, kicked off his own blanket on purpose, and crawled under Xiao Chuan's? Knowing himself... yeah, not entirely impossible. After all, he really did like the guy next to him.
While he was still stuck in his spiral, Xiao Chuan woke up and asked, "What are you thinking about?"
Shen Luo snapped out of it with an "Ah?" and said, "Nothing. Did you sleep well?"
Xiao Chuan rubbed the back of his head and said, "Yeah, slept great. Straight through till morning."
Shen Luo noticed he didn't seem to realize they'd ended up under the same blanket, so he quickly sat up and pulled the blanket aside. "It's morning. Time to get up."
As he stood, he casually scooped his own quilt off the floor and tossed it back on the bed like it was no big deal.
Xiao Chuan gave a quiet "Mm" and got up soon after too.
Honestly, Shen Luo felt a tiny bit disappointed that Xiao Chuan hadn't reacted at all to them sharing a blanket. But at the same time, he was relieved—thank god he hadn't been found out. Otherwise, he'd be fully exposed as a horny wolf in disguise.
After half an hour of morning chaos, the two of them drove to the hospital and picked up Wang Wei and Zheng Jiamei, getting ready to head to the exhibition venue.
"No updates on Weibo?" Shen Luo asked when he saw Zheng Jiamei working on her laptop.
