Pei Daniu didn't look exactly like Naima—she was actually a bit better looking, easier to tell apart. But Little Bandit could barely tell dogs apart to begin with, and since Pei Daniu and Naima had similar builds and fur colors, seeing Pei Daniu just sent it spiraling into confusion. It bounced away to find Bandit, ears drooping—the outside world was too scary. It needed comfort.

As Little Bandit bounced off, a bunch of dogs swarmed over. Under Da Huang's command, they quickly rearranged themselves into formation, sitting neatly behind Naima like some kind of loyal army. Da Huang sat right next to Naima, watching him interact with Pei Datou and Pei Daniu like a general monitoring peace talks.

"Sis, sis, sis—" Pei Haoyan grabbed Pei Sisi's arm, all hyped up. "Look! That cat is insane—it can literally command all the dogs in the yard!"

"I have eyes, thanks. Don't need a narrator," Pei Sisi rolled her eyes and yanked her arm free. Seeing all those dogs lined up behind Naima made her nervous. Were they about to throw down? Pei Daniu and Pei Datou were strong, sure, but no way they could take on that many dogs at once.

Pei Datou, seeing all those dogs sitting behind Naima, happily trotted over and plopped down next to him. He even turned around and barked a few times at the pack like he was showing off, which earned him a few playful swats from Naima.

Pei Daniu strolled up next, leaned down, and gently gave Naima a few affectionate licks. Naima let out a few soft woofs in response, then suddenly bolted toward Fang Yi, with Pei Daniu and Pei Datou trotting behind him.

Naima barked a few times at Fang Yi and tugged at his sleeve, clearly wanting him to crouch down.

Fang Yi followed along and squatted in front of her. Pei Datou, looking a little confused, placed his paw into his hand. Pei Daniu barked a couple of times, and Pei Datou quickly pulled her paw back—then stepped forward and gave Fang Yi's face a big slobbery lick. Fang Yi wasn't ready for that one, and before he could wipe off the drool, Pei Daniu came in for round two.

His face froze, expression shifting like he just got hit with a wave of regret. He turned, trying to say something to Pei Haoyan, but then Naima jumped in and added a few more licks of his own.

Fang Yi pointed at Naima with a d**dpan face. "Your breath is horrible. You're getting a full-on brushing tomorrow."

Hearing that, Naima instantly deflated and sulked off with Pei Datou in tow, heading to a quieter corner. Fang Yi let them go without a fuss. Du Qianze had already walked up and pulled him over to the water basin, handing him tissues with a grin. "Not everyone can handle that kind of enthusiastic welcome."

After wiping his face, Fang Yi turned to Pei Haoyan and Pei Sisi and d**dpanned, "Seriously, when's the last time your dogs had their teeth brushed? Their breath could knock someone out. You have to brush your dogs' teeth, got it?"

"Oh. Got it," Pei Haoyan nodded quickly, mentally lighting a candle for Fang Yi. Yeah... Pei Datou and Pei Daniu's breath really was something else.

Naima led Pei Datou and Pei Daniu back to his little den, picked out two cornbread buns, and gently placed them in front of the two guests. Then he pawed around in the corner, dragging out the snacks Naiba had left for him, and brought them over too. Sharing them all.

Da Huang even dug out a bun from her own stash and laid it in front of Pei Datou and Pei Daniu. Since they were Naima's siblings, they were basically her siblings too. If she gave them the cornbread she saved for Naima, it'd definitely make him happy.

Naima seemed to just notice Da Huang, and let out a few excited "awoo awoo" sounds toward Pei Datou and Pei Daniu, like he was introducing her. After hearing him out, Pei Datou and Pei Daniu each stepped forward and gave Da Huang a couple of appreciative licks—basically washing her face as a greeting. Da Huang clearly wasn't a fan of this form of welcome and bolted to the side to clean her face off.

"Hehehe, sis, look at your Pei Daniu," Pei Haoyan nudged Pei Sisi with a grin. Pei Daniu had been roasting his sister all day just by existing—it was incredibly satisfying to watch.

"I saw," Pei Sisi snapped, clearly annoyed, while her hands stayed busy texting a friend to look into Fang Yi's background real quick.

Seeing Da Huang's move, the rest of the cats and dogs quickly followed suit. They brought over their hidden treasures and offered them to Pei Datou and Pei Daniu. Some dogs didn't have a habit of hoarding snacks, so they just grabbed a bit of kibble from someone else's bowl and dropped it over as a symbolic gesture.

The cats, though, way more prepared.

They had a whole stash of stuff hidden away—but their favorite gift by far was d**d mice. And it didn't take long before Pei Datou and Pei Daniu were sitting in front of a pile of over a dozen d**d rodents.

"Where do you think they even hide all these mice?" Fang Yi turned to Du Qianze, baffled. "I clean their nests every single day and never spot a thing."

"No clue," Du Qianze said with a laugh. "Cats are super flexible, they can squeeze into any nook. Hiding this many d**d mice? Totally possible."

Pei Daniu and Pei Datou were both stunned by the wave of generosity. They just stared blankly at the pile of gifts in front of them—snacks, corn, kibble, and... a whole rat army. Da Huang even released White Jade Bean and Chickpea from their enclosure. White Jade Bean, trying to fit in, waddled over and placed a single corn kernel in front of Pei Datou as an offering.

Fang Yi turned around right in time to spot White Jade Bean standing in front of Naima, and immediately rushed over to scoop her back into the pen. He shot Da Huang a warning glare. "Stop letting White Jade Bean out. The whole yard's hyped up right now. If someone trips or steps on her, we've got a problem. Chickpea's one thing, but White Jade Bean's pregnant."

"You guys done yet?" Fang Yi barked at the swarm of cats and dogs crowding around Naima. "If you're done, go back and rest. Stop clumping up here."

The pets grumbled in protest, meowed and barked their feelings at Fang Yi, but when they saw he wasn't budging, they slowly and reluctantly shuffled back to their spots—though their eyes never left Naima.

"No staring!" Fang Yi yelled, his voice suddenly sharp. The cats and dogs flinched. One startled cat leapt off a tree trunk, missed the landing, and tumbled down—but thankfully the tree wasn't high, so it was fine. Still, they rarely saw Fang Yi get this snappy, so they all knew he meant business. With sad little sighs and side-eyes, they finally curled up and went to sleep.
