Adorable Pet Daily Life Ch. 60
Shen Luo saw the kid clinging tightly to Duo Duo and knew this wasn't going to work. Duo Duo might be a little dumb, but his temper wasn't that bad. Still, if you really pissed him off, he could totally snap. To stop things from getting worse, Shen Luo quickly stepped in and got the kid to tag along with Duo Duo and Meng Meng.
Even though Duo Duo was kind of a doofus, he did have a few tricks up his sleeve—like winking. Thanks to his Samoyed looks, he had a natural charm that could be super misleading. When he winked one eye, it looked like he was flirting. When he blinked both eyes, he'd tilt his head while staring at you. Blink once, and his head would tilt to the other side. Anyone who didn't know better would totally get hit by the cuteness overload.
And sure enough, when Shen Luo had Duo Duo do that, the little brat got mesmerized. Shen Luo taught the kid a few gestures, had him mimic them, and Duo Duo matched with super adorable poses. Finally, the kid stopped strangling Duo Duo's neck, and everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
While Sun Lixin was taking pictures, Shen Luo coached the kid on how to pose. By the end of it, he was drenched in sweat from all the effort.
After what felt like forever, the photo shoot was finally done. Shen Luo let out a sigh of relief and said to Sun Lixin, "Look at me—I'm basically your assistant now."
Sun Lixin knew things only went so smoothly because Shen Luo had been there. "Seriously, thank you so much. We wouldn't have gotten through this shoot without you. I'll give you an extra two hundred yuan for all the hard work!" he added in a low voice.
Shen Luo gave a small huff. "Now that's more like it."
When the photos were developed, they came out amazing. Still, Shen Luo couldn't help but think they'd be even better without that brat in them.
After getting the parents' permission, the studio enlarged one of the photos and displayed it in the front window as a sample.
That one photo ended up making the Samoyed couple super busy. Every few days, they were booked for shoots, and both dogs quickly got the hang of it. They slowly adapted to the new routine—getting posed and manhandled by hyper kids became their new normal.
Zheng Jiamei, though, thought her Samoyeds were being totally exploited by Shen Luo.
The Samoyeds became the most popular models at the studio. Sure, Ethan and the other pets had their gigs too, but the Samoyeds were clearly the crowd favorites.
One day, Wang Wei was doing his usual late-night trash runs. The hospital always had a ton of garbage, so he had to go back and forth a few times.
When he came back in, he said to Shen Luo, "Boss, I saw a dog lying under a car, but no matter how many times I called it, it wouldn't come out. Maybe you could give it a try?"
Shen Luo stood up. "Where is it?"
"Right by the dumpster. There's this old car that's been parked there forever."
Shen Luo followed Wang Wei over. Sure enough, under a dusty Santana that looked like it hadn't moved in ages, there was a dark, shadowy figure. Looking closer, it seemed to be a black-and-white dog.
"I think it might be a border collie, but I'm not totally sure," Wang Wei said, leaning on his knees.
Shen Luo crouched down and tried coaxing the dog out with a few playful noises. But then, from under the car came a weak, soft sound, "Meow~"
Both Shen Luo and Wang Wei froze. They stared at each other in disbelief. It looked like a dog—but why did it just meow?
Shen Luo tried using his ability and, confirmed—it was definitely a dog. So what the heck was up with that meow?!
With his butt sticking out, Shen Luo kept crouching there for a while and finally managed to communicate with the dog. He painted a nice little dream for it: a warm bed, tasty food, cute doggy girlfriends...
Eventually, the dog started crawling out slowly.
The moment they got a good look, both of them gasped. The dog's face looked fine, but its body was in awful shape. Patches of fur were missing, scabs everywhere, some spots still bleeding—it was seriously hard to look at.
The dog let out a couple of weak barks, its eyes full of fear, clearly traumatized.
Shen Luo called out, "Come on, I'll give you something tasty."
Sure enough, the dog followed.
Wang Wei quickly tagged along, still dying to know what the heck was up with that meow.
Back at the hospital, Dr. Wang came over and started treating it. "Looks like this dog's got a serious skin condition," he said.
"I can tell—it's pretty bad, right? Its fur's coming off in patches and it's still bleeding," Shen Luo said.
Wang Bo shook his head. "It's actually not that serious. A lot of these wounds were caused by people. Look here—see these black, round marks? Those are probably burns from cigarette butts. And this? Looks like it got stabbed with something."
Shen Luo's heart sank. He hadn't expected the poor dog to have been abused. That was just too sad.
Seeing the pitiful look in the dog's eyes, Shen Luo asked Wang Wei to bring some dog food. The dog immediately started scarfing it down, gobbling it up like he was scared someone would snatch it away.
"This guy's got some malnutrition going on. It's gonna need good care. I'd bet anything it escaped from somewhere—its previous owner was probably a full-on abuser."
Wang Bo was just as shocked. The dog wasn't in the worst shape he'd ever seen, but the cruelty behind it was next-level ugly.
Shen Luo felt a lump in his throat. He swallowed hard before saying, "Let's do what we can to help it. Looks like a border collie. Can't believe someone would abuse a dog like that."
Border collies weren't the flashiest-looking dogs, but they were smart—like genius level. They'd never pull dumb stuff like a husky might. And someone still had the heart to hurt him like this? That was just plain sick.
"Of course," Wang Bo said. "With proper care, it should be able to bounce back."
Shen Luo reached out to pet the collie. The dog flinched at first, but after realizing Shen Luo meant no harm, it slowly let him rest a hand on his head.
Shen Luo sighed. This dog was so on edge from all the abuse. If he hadn't worked so hard to show he meant well, there's no way the dog would've let him get this close.
After treating the wounds and making sure the dog had a full belly, the collie curled up in a corner, clearly exhausted. It dozed off pretty fast but would jolt awake at the slightest noise.
Shen Luo got a dog bed set up for it and closed the door, telling everyone not to go into the room unless necessary. The poor guy clearly didn't feel safe—hopefully with the door closed, it'd be able to sleep in peace.
