The moment the three of them stood up, the eerie opera screeched to a halt. Every single ghost on and off stage turned to look at them, eyes locked as they moved.

Meng Qianhe suddenly felt the yellow talisman burning hot in her palm. As she pulled her hand from her bag, blackened ash scattered into the air—the remains of the talisman.

Out of the two she'd packed, only one was left.

The same female voice came from the laptop, calm and steady: "Get in the car with the rooster. Stick the last talisman on the windshield. Don't think about anything else. Just floor it and go."

Her voice was cool and unhurried. Meng Qianhe found herself following the instructions without thinking.

There weren't any roosters in her own car, so the one with the rooster must be the other one.

All three of them scrambled into the car at almost the exact same time. Meng Qianhe dove into the passenger seat and slapped the talisman onto the windshield, while Zhou Xi jumped into the driver's seat and slammed her foot down on the gas.

Ghostly audience members crowded in front of the car, pale and clearly not alive. Zhou Xi shut her eyes and gunned it.

Nothing happened. They didn't hit a single thing.

Just seconds after the car took off, something landed hard on the roof with a loud thump. The ghost leader's ghastly face appeared upside down on the windshield, staring at them. The yellow talisman began to sizzle and puff out white smoke.

"AAAHHHHH!"

Zhou Yu saw the ghost face and screamed even louder than the two women.

"HELP! HELP! THE GHOST'S ON THE CAR!!"

He was yelling so loud that Zhou Xi's ears were ringing. She snapped back at him, "Shut up! You're drowning out the master's voice!"

Zhou Yu immediately clapped a hand over his mouth.

Inside the cramped car, with horrifying ghosts swarming outside, a sleepy voice came through the laptop, somehow sobering Zhou Yu's panicked brain the second it sounded.

"That rooster's still alive, right? Get it to crow a couple times."

"Roosters crowing means dawn's breaking. When those ghosts hear it, they'll retreat—but it won't fool them for long. Floor it. Don't look back. Only stop when you see the first streetlamp."

Make the rooster crow?

Zhou Yu grabbed the rooster's butt and gave it a good pinch. The rooster squawked in pain, letting out a sharp, loud crow that cut right through the sealed car and echoed across the entire clearing.

The ghost troupe leader, who'd been plastered on the windshield, visibly changed expression. He glared at them with rage, and the next second, he vanished into thin air.

Zhou Xi seized the chance, slamming the gas pedal down. Headlights slicing through the darkness, the luxury car sped off into the night. No one knew how long had passed when Meng Qianhe finally saw the scenic platform of her daughter-in-law's community, Sky City, along with the lion-shaped streetlights lining the road.

·

In a far-off corner of the neighborhood, inside a lavishly decorated room, a young woman holding a baby huddled close to a man, eyes wide as she watched the yellow-robed master cough up a mouthful of blood. She gasped involuntarily, and the baby in her arms immediately burst into tears. The kid's piercing wails filled the whole room.

The man beside her glared. "Watch the kid!"

Then he quickly rushed over to support the master's wobbling frame. "Master, what's wrong?!"

The master gripped his wrist hard, eyes dim and weary but burning with fury. "There's someone powerful helping her! Why didn't you say anything?!"

The man froze. "Someone... powerful?"

He turned to the woman holding the baby. "You exposed us?"

Just then, a luxury car pulled up to the road near the community. A security guard jogged over to greet them:

"Hello, are you here to—oh! Mrs. Meng!"

Bright lights poured down from the community gate, illuminating the slightly lowered car window. The security guard caught sight of Mrs. Meng, who was usually so elegant and refined. Now her face was pale, drenched in cold sweat. Her neatly styled hair had come undone, messy strands stuck to her forehead. Despite her good skincare, even she couldn't hide the signs of age now.

Meng Qianhe took a breath to steady herself and instinctively reached up to fix her hair. "You're the security guard... Xiao Liu, right?"

She used to come by often to spend time with her grandson, and vaguely remembered this young man in his twenties.

"Yes, yes, I'm Xiao Liu." He looked at her with concern. "Mrs. Meng, you don't look well. Should I call you an ambulance?"

He'd just graduated college, and with jobs being tough to find lately, he'd ended up taking this as a temp gig to get by. Back in school, he'd heard all about Mrs. Meng's rise to power alongside her husband and son. When she made a comeback and took back control of the company after they both passed, he'd thought she was made of iron.

Now though, age was showing—no one could fight off the toll it took.

"No need, no need."

Just as Xiao Liu turned to leave, he caught a glimpse of Zhou Yu in the backseat, feathers sticking out of his hair, hugging a giant rooster.

Zhou Yu: "..."

Under the security guard's sharp stare, his hand instinctively clenched—and the big rooster let out another deafening crow.

·

Outside the screen, the guys watching the livestream with Tang Xiangbei: "..."

The room was silent for a long moment until one of the younger ones finally muttered, "Brother Bei... that wasn't just some stage act, right?"

Holy crap. That was terrifying—but also seriously awesome.

Tang Xiangbei hadn't expected the master's livestream to be this high quality tonight. He flicked his hair, looking smug. "That's our Master Yu! You think she'd fake anything?"

He raised a brow. "So? Didn't I tell you? Wanna join Master Yu's fan club or what?"

"Join? Hell yeah, we're in!"

The younger guys all lit up, and that very night, a few more heavy-hitters joined the "Master Yu Fan Club."

Once the well-meaning security guard was sent on his way, the cramped car, still filled with the sound of heavy breathing, was broken by a familiar voice on the computer—Yu Yuan, yawning.

"Alright, you're safe now."

Her voice, still slightly warped with static, somehow landed gently in everyone's heart, calming them instantly.

"S-Streamer..."

Zhou Xi finally spoke between breaths, her face still pale with fear.

"Those things just now..."
