The Villain's Mom Becomes Famous for Fortune-Telling and Gossip Ch. 48

He stared coldly into Tang Xiangbei's eyes, suddenly grabbing the guy's collar. The smile vanished from his face. "You're just a coward trying to scare me off with ghost stories... You think everyone's as weak as you? Instead of wasting your energy like this, why don't you just admit you're a coward and hand over the basketball court to our school?"

Zhou Yu cringed a little at the whole juvenile turf war going on in front of him, but he'd been that age once too, so he got where the younger guys were coming from.

"Alright, alright, chill out," he stepped in to break the tension.

Before he could say anything else, Lu Yan turned to him with a sneer. "Brother Zhou, looks like you're not on our side either. We'll handle the filming ourselves. Don't bother seeing us off."

With that, Lu Yan used the motion of letting go of Tang Xiangbei's collar to give him a shove, then casually brushed off invisible dust from his hands. "Tang Xiangbei, you've been the one changing the rules of this game all along. Now it's my turn. Let's split up. Whoever finishes filming the whole school first with the camera still running gets the basketball court. Don't go running off like a little kid when things get real!"

He waved at Yellow Hair and Green Hair, who were waiting for him, and led the way into the dark hallway, heading upstairs to the second floor.

Tang Xiangbei looked down at the collar of his shirt, now wrinkled from the grab, and frowned under his slightly damp bangs. "How did I not notice before that Lu Yan's this annoying?"

"Probably 'cause you haven't hung out with him much," Zhou Yu said, giving his own fashionably silver hair a tug, his teeth grinding slightly. "He's the youngest in the Lu family—three older brothers and a sister. Kid's been spoiled rotten since he was born. I actually punched him once when we were little because of that temper of his."

After what just happened, his fists were itching again.

Still, Zhou Yu couldn't help but worry about Lu Yan. He was the oldest one here, after all. If something happened to the guy, and the Lu family's grandma started throwing a fit, it'd be a whole mess to deal with.

Just thinking about the headache made him click his tongue in frustration.

Seriously, what kind of brain cramp made him agree to get involved in this mess? He should've just listened to his future master and stayed at his family's guesthouse, soaking up the sun.

"You still in for this little adventure?" he asked.

Tang Xiangbei tugged at his collar, then raised an eyebrow. "Of course I'm in! Why wouldn't I be? I've got a talisman—what am I scared of?"

He figured Lu Yan, that unlucky punk, didn't have a talisman. If he ran into a ghost at night like his cousin Tang Xiangnan had and lost half his life, well, that'd be his own fault. But turns out, the guy wasn't even grateful for the warning.

He patted his talisman with full confidence. "The master said if something dirty's nearby, the talisman will heat up. Once it starts heating up, I'll take everyone and bounce."

Zhou Yu felt a bit more reassured.

Honestly, he was more worried about himself than about Tang Xiangbei and his fancy protection charm.

"Alright, then you guys be careful. I'm gonna go find Lu Yan."

"Got it," Tang Xiangbei nodded, sarcasm practically dripping from his mouth. "If you can't find him, just head back. Don't go getting yourself lost in here."

Zhou Yu chuckled at that. "Don't worry about me. I'm the only heir of the Zhou family—you think I'm gonna disappear in a place like this? Besides..."

He glanced around at the not-so-spooky surroundings. "Does this place look haunted to you?"

The group looked around. The whole building was cleaned up nicely. Other than the layers of dust, it didn't look like an abandoned campus at all.

Tang Xiangbei said, "As long as you know what you're doing. Lu Yan's already gone up to the second floor. We'll check out the first floor for now."

Zhou Yu waved at them and headed up the stairs.

The group split up in the first-floor lobby, each one turning on their phone cameras and filming deeper into the building. None of them noticed the girl standing silently just outside the lobby, at the base of the flagpole steps. Her high ponytail was soaked in blood, and she stood there completely still, watching them without a sound.

Lu Yan led his two sidekicks up to the second floor, his phone camera steadily recording the dimly lit corridor ahead.

Green Hair, still spooked by Tang Xiangbei's earlier ghost story, peeked out from the lab they'd just exited. He squinted down the seemingly endless hallway and whispered to Yellow Hair beside him, "Don't you think the light out there is darker than when we first went into the lab?"

Yellow Hair was a little braver than Green Hair. Plus, since Lu Yan had already proven the flagpole didn't have any creepy ghost girl clinging to it, he'd completely let his guard down.

Hearing Green Hair's question, he glanced toward the corridor. It was silent and stretched out endlessly. Sunlight filtered in through the lab's windows, catching the floating dust in the air and making it sparkle like glowing particles—it actually looked kinda pretty.

"Nah, you're just psyching yourself out," Yellow Hair said, slapping his friend's shoulder. "Come on, let's grab a selfie with the boss in front of the lab, then head up to the third floor."

Still uneasy, Green Hair let himself be dragged away, glancing nervously back at the corridor. "You really don't see it? It's way darker than before..."

"Dude, stop being dramatic. Don't make the boss yell at us for being chickens."

The two bickered their way down the corridor to look for Lu Yan—but after circling around, they realized he was nowhere to be found.

"Eh?" Yellow Hair dropped his arm from Green Hair's shoulder. "Where's the boss?"

Green Hair frowned. "Did he go up to the third floor already?"

"Probably. You know how he is—he must've gotten fed up with us dragging our feet and went on ahead."

Yellow Hair sounded totally sure of himself. He tugged Green Hair toward the stairs, but just as they reached the landing, they bumped into Zhou Yu.

Both of them froze for a second. They hadn't expected Zhou Yu to come looking for them after the way Lu Yan had snapped earlier.

They stood up straight and greeted, "Brother Zhou!"

Zhou Yu scanned the landing—only the two sidekicks, no Lu Yan. A wave of dread hit him.

"Where's your boss?" he asked sharply.
