The Villain's Mom Becomes Famous for Fortune-Telling and Gossip Ch. 82
"Points will be awarded by both the audience and the client involved in the case. At the end of the eight episodes, the team with the lowest total score... will be eliminated!"
"Alright, the votes are in!" The host beamed at the livestream camera. "The winning case is 'CEO's Cursed Ancestral Tomb Dug Up'! Big thanks to all our online viewers for your support!"
With the script now read through, the host gave a polite bow to the camera before announcing the first case of Strange and Mysterious Tales of the Demon World.
"We've already contacted the post's original author, and they've agreed to let us film. Lucky for us, the location of the tomb isn't far from where we are now, so we'll be heading out shortly!"
"However, we'll still be on the road for a bit, so during the ride, guests are free to do as they like—chat with fans, go live, anything is fair game!"
The four demon tribe guests immediately opted for a nap. Over on the Celestial Master Hall side, Fang Junyan and Ge Anduo chose to chat with their fans. Huo Qianya, too proud to waste her limited daily divination attempts—any more than three and her accuracy would tank—decided to conserve energy and rest.
With five out of nine guests knocked out cold, the director's expression twitched. Her eyes scanned the remaining two doing absolutely nothing.
Due to drawing the same lot, Yu Yuan ended up in the same van as Bai Cheng.
Neither were the chatty type. Bai Cheng was silently polishing his money sword and checking through an assortment of talismans. Yu Yuan, meanwhile, gently patted Gua Gua on the head.
"System," she said in her head, "didn't you say you found a pill that's compatible with me? I should have enough points for it now, right?"
Gua Gua shook its big fluffy head.
[Host, hold on! Lemme check!]
[Okay! We're good! One pill costs 7,000 Melon Coins. With what we've got now, we can buy two and still have a thousand left for emergency life-saving expenses!]
It wagged its tongue and nudged Yu Yuan's hand with its big head.
[So, how many should we get? The description says one pill can provide enough spiritual energy for a whole month for a regular person! But since you're a cultivator, you might only get half a month's worth.]
Yu Yuan: "Let's try one first."
[Got it!]
With a crisp ding, the system deducted her points. Gua Gua practically skipped as it fetched Yu Yuan's bag.
[Host! I had the system drop it into your bag! Quick, take a look!]
Yu Yuan rummaged through the bag and pulled out a sleek white porcelain bottle. Inside was a single, snow-white pill. The moment she opened the lid, a cool, refreshing scent wafted through the van.
Gua Gua's tail started wagging like crazy.
[Wooooow! Smells amazing! Worth every one of those 7,000 Gua Coins!]
Even Bai Cheng, who had been quietly focused on his sword, glanced up when he caught the scent.
Yu Yuan popped the pill into her mouth and swallowed. Warmth immediately spread through her belly, soothing her previously aching, qi-depleted gut like a gentle fire.
[How is it? How is it?] Gua Gua's little paws tapped her leg eagerly, doggy eyes shining.
[System quality, right? Guaranteed premium!]
Yu Yuan didn't answer right away. As the pill dissolved, not only did her belly warm up, her eyes also began to feel like they were soaking in sunlight. A strange power stirred inside her, guiding her newly gained merit to restore her vision.
[Host? Host?]
Gua Gua shook her arm. Yu Yuan pressed a hand to its head.
"Stop wiggling. I'm digesting."
[Oh.]
The dog flattened itself obediently against her feet.
Suddenly, its whole body tensed. It felt something brush against its tail. Snapping its head around, it locked eyes with the perpetually gloomy Bai Cheng, who hadn't pulled his hand away fast enough.
Bai Cheng met the Samoyed's wide-eyed glare with an amused smirk and, without a word, pulled out a sausage from his bag.
Gua Gua's eyes glinted with disdain.
Hmph! Like this doggo's never had a sausage before!
But why was the packaging blue? That one... it hadn't tried yet...

By the time the car reached their destination, Yu Yuan had just finished absorbing the effects of the pill and opened her eyes.
She was about to get out with Gua Gua when she noticed it was nowhere near her feet. Twisting around, she saw a fluffy white Samoyed wagging its tail like a propeller, happily nuzzling Bo Cheng's hand—and shamelessly trying to dig into his jacket pocket for more sausages.
Yu Yuan's gaze shifted, and Bai Cheng's ears flushed red. Clearly flustered, he tried to block Gua Gua's curious snout, embarrassment written all over his face.
[Host, host! This sausage is really good! Can you buy some for me later?]
Gua Gua excitedly tugged out the wrapper from Bai Cheng's jacket with its teeth and held it up for Yu Yuan to see.
[Look, this one! It has this packaging!]
Yu Yuan's expression darkened. "Why are you stealing people's food?"
[He touched me first! This is compensation!] Gua Gua argued righteously, smug in the knowledge that only she could hear it.
Hearing the director's voice in her earpiece urging them to get off the vehicle, Yu Yuan gave Gua Gua a light bop on the head and smiled at Bai Cheng. "Sorry about that, Daoist Bai—my pet's causing trouble again."
"No worries," Bai Cheng replied, voice flat but his face still red. He stole a glance at the Samoyed sprawled on the floor like it owned the place. "I fed it the sausage. It's very well-behaved."
Gua Gua's ears twitched and it suddenly turned its head.
[Did... did he just defend me?]
"It probably doesn't want you getting scolded later," Yu Yuan replied without moving her lips. She gave Bai Cheng a grateful nod. "Thank you for the treat. The director's calling—shall we head out?"
Bai Cheng gave a quiet nod.

In front of them stood a massive villa, perched on the slope of a small mountain. From the gates, one could look down and see nearly all of Baiyun City. During the day, it was just rooftops and cleanly cut roads, but come nightfall, the view must be a dazzling show of neon lights and flowing traffic.
It gave the feeling that the entire city bowed at one's feet.
Whoever this "cursed CEO" was, he clearly knew how to enjoy life—and had ambition to match.
Yu Yuan took in her surroundings in silence.
