Daily Life in the Pet Shop Ch. 173

"I'm heading out for a run. Be careful around here and try not to make a mess or bother anyone. Pei Datou's already made friends with all the animals in the store, so you can walk around. Don't worry—the dogs in the backyard won't bite you," Fang Yi said from the side, waiting for a while but unsure what Pei Haoyan was trying to do. Naima was starting to get anxious—it was time to run.

"Really? How did Datou get along with all the other animals? I didn't expect him to have that much charm. When we were abroad, he barely gave other dogs the time of day." Pei Haoyan had always thought his Datou was kinda reserved. And now suddenly he'd said hi to every animal in the pet shop overnight? That didn't feel real at all.

"Pretty much all the animals in the store listen to Naima. Naima showed him around the place and introduced him to everyone." Pei Haoyan might've felt proud about it, but Fang Yi, being totally blunt, laid out the truth without sugarcoating it.

"Oh." Pei Haoyan rubbed Pei Datou's head and sneakily plucked out two hairs, making Pei Datou let out a yelp of pain.

"Uh... it's been a while since I've gone for a run too. I'll go with you. I, uh... haven't had breakfast yet. After the run, breakfast's on me."

After hearing what Fang Yi said, Pei Haoyan was about seventy to eighty percent convinced by what Du Qianze told him—probably all the animals in the store did listen to Naima. Since Pei Datou had such an awesome big bro, he should definitely hang out with him more. If nothing else, at least he'd have some backup in a fight.

"Alright, let's go together." Fang Yi led the way up front. Pei Datou happily followed behind Naima, and even ran upstairs to call down Pei Daniu.

Back when he was abroad, Pei Haoyan used to go running pretty often too, so he could keep up with Fang Yi's pace at first. But it had been a while, and Fang Yi's running route was way too long. Eventually, Pei Haoyan couldn't take it anymore. When he saw a pavilion, he pulled Pei Datou over and refused to keep running.

"Take a break here then. I'll come back after I finish the run, and we'll go get breakfast together." There was still half the route left. Fang Yi was used to running the whole thing—he didn't feel right stopping early.

"Cool, go ahead." Pei Haoyan waved him off and pulled Pei Datou to sit with him in the pavilion. They'd already run two or three kilometers, and he was totally done. No wonder Fang Yi had to head out so early—it was such a long run it could straight-up k**l someone.

Pei Datou, being held back and unable to run, barked nonstop in frustration. He wanted to run with Naima but got firmly dragged back by Pei Haoyan. He was still here, damn it. Why was Pei Datou always ignoring him?

When Fang Yi came back, Pei Haoyan was chatting with Ting Shan and Cai Ya. As soon as he spotted Fang Yi, he waved him over quickly.

"So this really is Naima's brother, huh? Just now I thought he'd stolen your Naima," Ting Shan said first when Fang Yi walked up.

"Idiot, idiot, idiot." Da Fei swooped down from the tree and landed on Ting Shan's shoulder.

"You knew this wasn't Naima, you little traitor. Why didn't you say anything earlier?" As Da Fei spoke, Ting Shan suddenly realized—Da Fei was super familiar with Naima, so of course he'd be able to tell the difference between two similar dogs. But just earlier, Da Fei and Guifei had just stood there in the tree watching them without saying a word.

"Idiot, idiot, idiot," Guifei squawked as she landed on Ting Shan's other shoulder.

"Hey! You two little brats—I've raised you with the best food and all the care in the world, and this is how you treat me?" Ting Shan lifted a hand and knocked Da Fei lightly on the head, clearly annoyed at how much Da Fei enjoyed watching him make a fool of himself.

"Watch your mouth. Guifei's my bird," Cai Ya cut in, clearly not cool with that.

"Alright, alright, stop arguing. Can we all agree now that I'm innocent? Pei Datou really is mine. I didn't steal him." Pei Haoyan finally managed to jump into the conversation.

"Sorry." Ting Shan and Cai Ya turned around at the same time, apologizing. Then they looked at Pei Datou, then at Naima, and noticed there was another dog next to Naima. The resemblance wasn't super strong, but the coat pattern did kind of give off sibling vibes.

"Wait... don't tell me this one's another long-lost sibling Naima just found?" Cai Ya said in surprise, pointing at Pei Daniu.

"No," Fang Yi looked down at Pei Daniu and said, "She's probably Naima's older sister."

"Damn... dogs can find their long-lost relatives now too?" Ting Shan was at a loss for words. Other than what the hell, nothing else came to mind.

"Da Fei," Ting Shan picked Da Fei up and asked seriously, "You're not gonna go out and recognize some long-lost siblings too, are you? If you do, make sure they're smart parrots."

"Caw!" Da Fei tilted his head and thought for a bit, clearly not getting what Ting Shan meant.

"Okay, enough talking. If we're done here, get back to your run. If we don't hurry, we're gonna be late for work," Cai Ya cut in. She'd only come over earlier 'cause she saw Pei Haoyan with Pei Datou and thought he might've run off with Naima. Now that Fang Yi was back and the misunderstanding was cleared up, it was time to move on.

"Got it." Ting Shan nodded, but just as they started heading off, he turned back around and asked Fang Yi if they could film a short video with Mimi. The last time Mimi was on their show, the response online was huge. Fans had been blowing up the store's official account asking about it.

"Sure. I'll bring Mimi back to the store sometime and we'll shoot a clip." Fang Yi had gotten paid pretty well during that last shoot, so filming another video wasn't a big deal. He just had to be careful not to reveal where Mimi was actually living.

"I'll give you a call then," Ting Shan said. Then after taking a few steps, he paused and muttered to Cai Ya in frustration, "Why the hell did we even wait around for so long just now? We could've just called the boss and cleared it up in two minutes."

After that, Fang Yi and Pei Haoyan went to grab breakfast in the back. He even packed up a portion for Du Qianze. But as they were walking back toward the store entrance, Naima suddenly stopped, unwilling to move. Slowly, he turned and ducked behind Fang Yi.

"Someone's here," Fang Yi said, glancing at Naima's reaction. He already knew what was up.

"How do you know? Is Naima scared of people?" Pei Haoyan was curious when he saw Naima acting like that. Wasn't he supposed to be a big deal around the store? Why did he look like he didn't want to go back in?
